An unattended child is defined as a minor being in the library without adult supervision and unable to care for themself. This includes young children who are without close supervision, even though an adult caregiver may be elsewhere in the building or a child of any age who is left alone and cannot work or play independently.
Medina County District Library staff do not serve in loco parentis. The protection, wellbeing, and conduct of children in the library are the responsibility of their adult care givers.
The first priority is the child's safety and well-being. If the caregiver cannot be located by staff, the supervisor will determine if the police should be contacted
