Makerspace & Digital Lab The Makerspace is just that – a free space to make things. This bright, engaging area, located in the Family History and Learning Center at Medina Library, features sewing and embroidery machines, a laser engraver, 3D printer, large format printer, button maker, Cricut, T-shirt press, sublimation printer, and more. In 2024, the Makerspace served nearly 10,000 patrons and printed 6,700 feet of banner and sticker material on the large format printer. They recently added a new 3D printer and Cricut machine to replace the prior ones that were very well used. The Makerspace is ideal for small business and non-profit promotional needs. “The Makerspace is a gem in our community. The staff is very easy to work with and knowledgeable. We have watched the Makerspace evolve and grow, continually adding services based on user feedback.” – Amy Busby, Medina City Schools Director of Communications Adjacent to the Makerspace is the Digital Lab, featuring equipment for conversion of reels, videos, and slides into digital files. Film degrades with age so the longer one waits the worse condition their memories may be in. The lab also has a turntable and cassette conversion equipment. Appointments are required so staff can offer assistance, if needed. Equipment can be reserved for up to three hours. Learn more and schedule an appointment at mcdl.info/Makerspace. Snuggle Up & Read MCDL patrons and staff donated enough pajamas and books this December, during our Snuggle Up and Read campaign, to create 54 book and PJ combos for Medina County kids in need. Recipient agencies include Birthcare of Medina County and Catholic Charities. Both agencies accept walk-in clients seeking assistance. Birthcare helps with young children and their families while Catholic Charities offers a small food pantry and other life needs, as available. Thank you to our donors and library volunteers who package the Snuggle Up sets. “Bedtime is a great time to read together. It’s calming and creates bonds between child and caregiver. The greatest benefit of all is the early literacy skills kids learn from hearing the reader’s voice, looking at pictures and touching books. It prepares them for school and life.” – Morgan Fryar, Medina Children’s Department Librarian
