5 MCDL News & Notes College & Scholarships The college application process is underway for the class of 2026 and MCDL has resources to help find your dream school and fund your education. mcdl.info/College is a curated site to research schools based on admissions, qualifications, and financial aid. Find rankings on schools, majors, and other quality of life indicators you may be looking for in higher education. mcdl.info/Scholarships provides a list of local and regional scholarship opportunities that high school seniors planning on attending college, non-traditional students, and graduates going directly into the workforce can all benefit from. Application deadlines are often in February, March, and April so that recipients can be selected and scholarships awarded before the end of the school year. Scholarships’ amounts and deadlines will be updated as information becomes available. Warm Up Medina County Final donation day for knitted and crocheted items is Sat., Nov. 1, all day. Bring finished items to service desks at any MCDL location. We accept handmade items preferred by local charities: • Hats • Scarves • Mittens/gloves • Adult, child, baby, and lap blankets Past recipients include: Birthcare, Catholic Charities, Feeding Medina County, Hope and Healing Survivor Resource Center, Hospice, Job and Family Services, Medina Salvation Army, and WIC program at the Medina County Health Department. After 21 years, it’s estimated Warm Up has generated more than 14,000 blankets, scarves, mittens and hats for county residents. Spotlight on Yarn Buddies The Yarn Buddies are the knitters and crocheters of the Western Reserve Masonic Community. For more than a decade, they’ve been making baby, lap and full-size blankets, hats, scarves, and mittens for MCDL’s Warm Up Medina County. Martha Fousek is the organizer. She says the group wants to share their talents with anyone in the community who would like to learn to knit or crochet or those who want to return to the craft. All ages are welcome, no experience necessary. They even have extra supplies to you get started. Yarn Buddies takes donations of clean, washable yarn, but they don’t accept unfinished projects. If you’d like to join, they meet at 10:00 am on Wednesdays, at the Western Reserve Masonic Community, 4931 Nettleton Rd., Medina.
