Summer Reading at MCDL Aims at Reading Every Day

Reading over the summer months helps students avoid the “summer slide” in school skills and may make them better prepared for the return in the fall.

But not just kids can benefit from the Summer Reading Celebration at Medina County District Library.

“The game has been completely re-worked, streamlined, and there are bigger and better prizes this year, for doing what most of us enjoy doing anyway…reading”, says Connie Sureck, MCDL Program Coordinator. The goal is to get people reading, that’s why we named the game Every Reader, Every Day. It’s our goal to make reading a part of every Medina County residents’ day.”

Children are encouraged to read at least 20 minutes every day. Parents sign their game board as they fulfill the reading challenge. They earn a sports bag at the midway point and a book of their choice to keep for completing the game. A grand prize drawing will be held at each library, where one lucky reader will win a $50 Target gift card.

Teens can track their reading on line for chances to win gift card prizes to Chipotle, Starbucks, iTunes and Amazon. The grand prize is an iPad.

For adults, simply fill out an entry form for every book, magazine or audiobook read. Weekly prizes include gift certificates to local restaurants and businesses and a Kindle is the grand prize.

There are a lot of special programs happening during the summer, from mad science and bubbles for kids in July and family movie nights all summer, to craft and health and wellness classes for adults, MCDL libraries are the place to be this summer!
